Hello Willi Tigers,

Season Summer 2024 finished yesterday with grand final day at Altona Sports Centre. Congratulations to teams who played yesterday in super competitive games.

SATURDAY JUNIORS
Our club had 23 teams playing in Summer 2024 season with players ranging from first time netballers to our experienced U17s. A great season for us a Club seeing so many happy faces courtside each week. Of our 23 teams, 7 teams played in finals with 3 teams playing a grand final and 1 premiership. ANA competitions are super competitive with highly skilled teams playing each week – over 160 teams each week across all the Clubs.

We had three teams playing in grand finals with the following results:

U13/3 Roar defeated by Hurricane Bolts
U15/3 Tails DEFEATING PCC Poseidon
U15/1 Pouncers defeated by VU Black

Huge congratulations to Tails on your premiership and to Abbey Lee for fantastic coaching supported by a great group of parents.

Congratulations to Felix Spiriteri for coaching Roar supported by Leanne Spiriteri as team manager and your great group of parents for a great season and for finishing runners up. A tough game yesterday however you played out to the end showing such great sportsmanship.

Stacy Szalay has coached Pouncers for many seasons supported by Lily Marino and fantastic parent group. Congratulations for playing in a grand final yesterday and finishing as runners up. Such a close game which reflects the super competitiveness of team who just love playing netball.

We also celebrate ANA B&F award winners who each received a trophy after the grand finals yesterday. Join me in congratulating:

Our teams can’t play each week with the fabulous efforts of coaches, team managers and parents so thanks to you all for your support during the Summer 2024 season!

A BIG thanks must also go to our head coach Tara Shearer for her weekly encouragement, tips and tricks given to each coach and team. Tara puts in a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure our teams are playing to the best of their ability each week. Miah Cahill is also helping out each week behind the scenes getting teams ready. Miah is behind our wonderful Instagram posts. Make sure to follow willitgersnetballclub on socials (Insta and FB). Thanks Tara and Miah!

SENIORS
Mid week teams play on Tuesday and Thursday nights. We had 3 Tuesday ladies teams, a Thursday U15 team and a Thursday Mixed team.

A BIG congratulations to our senior ladies team – HUNTERS – who are Ladies C Reserve premiers with a win last Tuesday night. Congratulations to Sophie Aitchison in being named player of the grand final. This team is made up of former Sat junior players who have aged out and now play mid week netball. We have numerous senior teams playing each week and is a great option for players of all ages wanting to play. Thanks to Miah Cahill for managing the senior teams each week. EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS
I would also like to thank Nikki Chambers for managing equipment and uniforms over the past few seasons. This is a valuable role at the club as we can’t play or train without these items. Nikki has stepped down from this role and Lucy Tippett will be managing equipment. We are looking for someone to help out with uniforms so if you have some spare time (about an hour a week) please contact admin@willitigers.com.au . A reminder as well on teamApp about the second hand uniform chat group for those wanting to sell or buy hoodies or dresses.

TROPHIES
Thanks to Alicia Wilson for co ordination of the trophies – a great effort to collect names and arrange for trophies to given out at team celebrations. A behind the scenes job that we all appreciate.

ADMIN SUPPORT
Some exciting news – we have Shona Cumming starting in the next week in our Admin role. Shona will be managing emails, doing teamApp posts and supporting our committee and Tara. Shona will be working behind the scenes and will be much needed support for me. Shona can be contacted at admin@willitigers.com.au . COMMITTEE
Lastly the BIGGEST thank you goes to the Committee – no explanation needed about the importance of their roles and the work done behind the scenes to keep the Club running all year. Thanks to:

We have our AGM coming up in August and would like to encourage any parent interested to joining the committee to nominate. All roles become vacant and elections will be held to fill the roles. Details about date, time and venue of the AGM will be announced shortly.

Winter 2024 season will commence 15 July when school goes back. Training will begin on Tuesday 16th and games on Saturday 20th. Team lists have been finalised and welcome emails from the Club will be sent out in the next few days.
