Fill In and Borrowed Players - Information Update - All competititions
23 Aug by Willi Tigers Netball Club (Team App)
Just a reminder for all teams here are the rules:
IMPORTANT: You must use a players registered name on the scoresheet, not their preferred name (ie Madeline, not Maddie).
All all groups: (U9to U17)
A player can play a maximum of two games each Saturday – one for their registered team and one for another Willi Tigers team (no playing for other clubs)
Age groups (U11 to U17)
Who is a borrowed player?
A borrowed player plays for their own registered team and another WT team ( a WT player can never play for another club on a Saturday). A borrowed player plays a maximum of TWO games on a Saturday.
Teams can play a maximum of three (3) borrowed players per game to ensure teams have a maximum of seven (7) players to take the court. Teams CANNOT play a borrowed player to field a team of more than seven (7) players. Points will be lost by that team if this happens.
Who is a Fill In Payer?
A Fill In player plays only for another WT team and not their registered team. ie: if your team has a bye then players can fill in for other WT teams. Or, if you have 10 players and can manage with 9 players for your game then player 10 can go fill in for another WT team.
A “Fill In” player can play a maximum of ONE game on a Saturday, There is no limit to the number of Fill In players per team. Points will be lost if a fill in player plays two games on a Saturday.
What players can I borrow?
Borrowed and Fill In players must satisfy the age requirements for the division in which they are playing. A Borrowed of Fill In player can only play up a division and NOT in the same or lower division. This rule does not apply to the “non competitive” 9/U competition – where players can be borrowed across the grades.
Age Requirements
Players must have turned 7 years of age to play in Junior competition.
Players are only eligible to participate in certain age groups upon reaching the relevant age threshold (Minimum Age Requirements).
The Minimum Age Requirements for each age group are:
Age Group
9/U – 7 years
11/U – 7 years
13/U – 10 years
15/U – 11 years
17/U – 14 years
21/U – 14 years
Open – 14 years
A Team or Club who breaches this By-law may be subject to a penalty of the loss of four (4) premiership points.
Scoresheets must clearly show the following information:
- write player name, registered team and grade and either a B (borrowed) or F (fill in).
If not sure ask the umpires, if they don’t know, go into the netball room and ask at the desk what you need to write. Try and have someone do this during the game so you are not rushed at the end. ANA don’t want teams to lose points for admin errors like this so please do be afraid to ask on the day.
Borrowed or Fill In players recorded incorrectly on the score sheet or borrowed incorrectly will be deemed to be an unregistered player and the team borrowing the player will forfeit the game and lose four (4) points. ANA have already started deducting 4 points from teams as of last week – round 4!
How many times can a player be a fill in or borrowed?
Players may be borrowed or fill in from one grade to another grade until the said player has played three (3) times in a higher grade. Players can play 2 games as a borrowed player and 2 games as a fill in player. The third game as either a borrowed or fill in will trigger the move to new team. They will then automatically become members of the higher-grade team.
Parents please keep track of how many times your player has played in another team. If unsure, ask the ladies in the netball room to check for you but do this before the player takes to court and allow at least 30 minutes to check.
Tuesday night games – U11 and U13
If players fill in for a team on a Tuesday night those games are not counted towards the 2 game limit. HOWEVER, if a player plays on a Tuesday night and plays on the following Saturday, the borrowed and fill in rules apply.
If you have any questions please reach out to Stacy or myself.
